B1079 - SOLD

This is an utterly charming framed original watercolour painting by the well known French artist Georges Villa (1883-1965).

The subject is a gorgeous 18th Century romantic couple in a park. The gentleman plays the lyre and the lady reads the music. The piece is entitled 'Le leçon de musique dans un parc' written in the artist's own hand on the back of the painting. The artist has signed the back and given his address as 12, Bd de Clichy, Paris.

The artist has also signed the front of the painting, given a date of 1935 and a place of Trianon. There is a personal inscription 'pour Odile et Ernest, en souvenir affectueux de leur cousin Georges' and was obviously given as a gift.

The painting is in a lovely blue and gilded wooden oval frame which has distressed a little with the passage of time. There are 3 hooks on the back for hanging purposes.

A beautiful watercolour, stunning to look at and full of personal endorsements by the artist.

It measures :-  44 cms (17.25 inches) wide x 34 cm (13.25 inches) high.

This truly unique painting is from a carefully selected collection of gorgeous antique French decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
