This is a magnificent antique French brass door knocker set dating from the 19th Century. It is a really substantial example of it's type and with it's plate weighs 1.75 kg!

It is in the shape of a hand and is beautifully detailed. It has a ring on the index finger and there is a frilled cuff and bracelet at the wrist. The fingers clasp a ball which forms the actual knocker.

The back bracket from which the hand is hinged is also substantial and decorative.

The knocker has it's original plate against which it hammers. Both the knocker itself and the plate have a threaded bolt for fixing to the door.

The brass has mellowed over the years but would polish to a bright finish if required.

The knocker measures :- 15 cm (6 inches) high x 7 cm (2.75 inches) wide x 6 cm (2.5 inches) deep.

The knocker plate measures 5.5 cm (2.25 inches) diameter.
