B1098 - SOLD

This is a divine antique French religious diorama dating from the mid 1800's. It would make a lovely addition to a religious display perhaps grouped on a wall with others.

It is carved from Italian soapstone and would have been crafted by a monk. It features a beautiful scene of the Holy Family. Mary and Joseph are with the infant Jesus beneath a beautiful tree. Joseph leans forward to offer Jesus some fruit from a cloth and a donkey grazes in the background. The scene is utterly charming and  is carved in amazing detail.

The diorama has a black oval ebonised frame which contrasts perfectly with the clear cream of the soapstone. There is a loop on the back for hanging.

The diorama is in good antique condition. The glass is clear. There has been a little worm in the frame in the past but this gives character to this very old piece.

It measures :- 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) high x 13 cm (5 inches) wide.
