B1111 - SOLD

This is a stunning huge antique French crucifix  dating from the Napoleon III era C 1860. It is a very weighty and substantial piece and is an exceptional example of it's type. It is very decorative and architectural.

It is made of wood covered in the most gorgeous sumptuous red silk velvet. The cross is made of  silvered spelter with gilded acanthus leaf and thorn detail, and looks stunning against the red background. Above the head of Christ are the letters INRI.

The red silk velvet is still bright and beautiful with just a little wear on some of the edges. The gilding and silvering on the spelter has mellowed a little over the passage of time to give us this wonderfully atmospheric piece.

There is a maker's / retailer's plaque on the back and a ring for hanging on a wall.

It measures :- 54.5 cm (21.5 inches) high x 29 cm (11.5 inches) wide x 7 cm (2.75 inches) deep.

This stunning cross is from a carefully selected collection of gorgeous antique French religious & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
