This is an exquisite antique French carved wood mount / pediment  dating from the 1800's. It is very architectural and would look superb on a wall or would be perfect as a central point from which to hang drapes, perhaps over a bed as a ciel de lit.

The pediment has a central crest beneath which is a beautiful 3 dimensional bow with stunning flowers and leaves to either side.

The back of the pediment is carved out into a long groove indicating that perhaps once it sat on a pole.

The pediment is beautifully water gilded on gesso.The gilding has mellowed to a subtle old gold hue.

The pediment has had some worm over the years. It has one or two old repairs and the gesso has a little distressing but it is absolutely GORGEOUS just as it is.

It measures:- 41.5 cm (16.25 inches) wide x 18 cm (7 inches) high.
