This is a magnificent vintage French wall hanging. It has a 'tapestry' design after 'La Vie Seigneuriale' of the Cluny Museum in Paris, printed on linen. The original 'La Vie Seigneuriale' tapestries were completed in the first quarter of the 16th Century. This version certainly captures the essence of the original and would look superb whether hung in a country house home or a hyper modern apartment.
It depicts the outdoor life of the aristocrats & their servants. They are in a beautiful woodland glade with fruit and bird filled trees. The central figure is a lady resplendent in a gorgeous gown and head-dress. She is being offered sweetmeats by attendants and behind her is her beau. To the left of them is a courting couple. He is particularly fabulously dressed in a fur lined coat and is wearing a heavy chain around his neck. There are also three ladies in pink gowns present.
All around them is an abundance of vegetation and flowers (millefleurs) and a little fox looks on. The dark blue background gives the appearance that it may be night.
The colours are fabulous. Vibrant pinks and greens contrast perfectly with the dark blue background.
The wall hanging has a hessian lining, is nice and heavy and hangs perfectly. On the back are some metal fixtures for hanging purposes. It is in excellent vintage condition with a little fading of the printed colours in places, but this just adds character to this lovely piece.
It measures :- 190 cm (6 ft 3 inches) wide x 138 cm (4 ft 6.25 inches ) high.
A fantastic large wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to a room and another divine vintage French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
N.B. We have used clips to display the tapestry and these are not included.
