B1146 - Sublime Antique French Chocolate Box, Porcelain Plaque, Lace, Passementerie TrimThis is a sublime antique French box dating from the late 1800's, early 1900's. It would have been given as a gift filled with bon bons or chocolates from a high class shop. It could now be used as a presentation box for another gift or to keep a few treasured keepsakes in. The box is round in shape and made made from heavy card. The lid has a gorgeous central porcelain plaque with the image of a beautiful 18th Century lady. The image is probably a transfer but her pearls and lace collar are in relief and were almost certainly added by hand. Around the plaque is a gold metallic wire passementerie now faded with the passage of time. A gorgeous flounce of frothy lace in a sublime shade of pale tea rose completes the ensemble. The top of the lid is covered with a grosgrain textile also in a soft tea rose shade. The edges of the box are trimmed with gold metallic paper. The lid lifts off to reveal the cardboard interior. The quality of the box is without doubt and the chocolates must have been very expensive! The box is in very good antique condition with one or two very minor age spots and scuffs. It measures :- 18 cm (7 inches) in diameter x 4 cm (1.5 inches) high. A sublime box to add a touch of happiness to a boudoir. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles, accessories and decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'!
