This is an amazing antique Italian baroque pediment possibly dating from as early as the 18th Century. It probably came from a church and would now look absolutely stunning over a doorway or as a centre piece on a curtain pelmet. Fixed above a bed it could form part of a ciel de lit from which to drape curtains. It would also look superb on a console table displayed with other architectural treasures.

It is carved from wood and has a fabulous gilded and painted finish. It has a magnificent central crest with scrolls and curls and a further scroll to either side. It is extremely three dimensional. The raised areas of the carving are gilded which looks fabulous against the dark red paint of the backgoround.

The pediment has had a little worm over the years. The gilding has distressed and there are chips to the wood  but it is absolutely GORGEOUS just as it is.

There are two fittings on the back for fixing to a wall.

The pediment measures:- 64 cm (25.25 inches) wide x 21 cm (8.25 inches) high x 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) deep.
