This is a superb jacquard woven vintage French tapestry wall hanging entitled 'Paysage Du Lauragais'. It has a stunning 18th C rural scene of Point De L'Halluin in Flanders. It is after an 18th C Aubusson tapestry in the series 'Verdures Fines'. It would look fabulous whether in a country house interior or an ultra modern apartment.
It depicts a bucolic rural scene which creates an illusion of space, suggesting a retreat into the scene, providing an effect of distance and perspective. In the background we see a beautiful château and in the distance is a village at the foot of the mountains. Beside the château is a beautiful lake upon which ducks frolick and charming characters enjoy relaxing pursuits. The foreground is dominated by fabulous trees and lush vegetaion.
The colours are rich browns and greens with hints of a deep red in the costumes.
The reverse of the tapestry is lined and has metal fixtures for hanging. It is in good vintage condition with just a little fading to the lining.
The wallhanging measures :- 135 cm (4 ft 5 inches) wide x 92 cm (3 ft ) high.
A fantastic wall hanging tapestry to add an authentic château chic statement and another divine vintage French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
N.B. We have used clips to display the tapestry & these are not included.
