B1208 - SOLD

This is a stunning needlepoint church pelmet dating from the early 20th Century. It would originally have been used to adorn a processional plinth or an altar. It would now make a fantastic addition to an interiors project perhaps as a pelmet over a bed or over a pair of curtains in a salon.

It is worked along it's entire length in silk needlepoint. The bottom of the pelmet has a pointed scalloped edge. Each section as defined by a single scallop has an individual ecclesiastical design worked in a vibrant colour combination. The effect is breathtaking and is further enhanced by a plethora of hanging silk bobbles.

In the central section of the pelmet the letters JHS are embroidered in satin stitch.

The edges of the pelmet are piped with cord. The reverse is lined with a clean cotton textile and there is a stiffened interlining.

The pelmet is in excellent antique condition. I can find only a tiny bit of wear to the silk on the edge above the letters, please see photos.

The pelmet measures :- 290 cm (9 ft 6.25 inches) long x 25 cm (9.75 inches) high including the bobbles.

This is a fabulous church pelmet to add a sumptuous finishing touch to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of divine antique French textiles & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe!
