B1216 - SOLD

This is a sublime tall antique French religious bisque figure of The Virgin Mary dating from the 19th Century. It was made to commemorate the declaration by the Pope in Rome on 8th December 1854 that the Immaculate Conception be doctrine.

It is a very decorative and substantial piece standing over 44 cm (17.25 inches) high and weighing nearly 4 kg. It would make a stunning addition to a religious or vintage display.

The statue is made entirely in white bisque porcelain. The Holy Virgin stands with her hands crossed in front of her chest. Her mantle and robe fall in beautiful folds around her. She stands barefoot on a serpent which bites it's own tail.

She is in good antique condition with a little patination to the bisque. There are two small nibbles to the bisque on the rim of the base and a chip to the small finger of her left hand (please see photos).

She measures :-  44 cm (17.25 inches) high x 17.5 cm (7 inches) across the base.

This sublime figure is from a carefully selected collection of gorgeous antique French religious & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
