B1230 - SOLD

This is a sublime antique French hand embroidered lace curtain dating from the 19th C. It is full of timeworn charm and would add a château chic finishing touch to a long window.

It is made from spotted voile and is a true antique white in colour. Down the left hand leading edge and along the bottom of the curtain are beautiful tendrils of flowers and leaves. These are exquisitely worked in hand embroidery and ribbonwork using lengths of handworked lace. The workmanship is divine.

At the top of the curtain are sewn 6 tapes for tying it to a pole.

The curtain is clean. Not surprisingly, considering the delicacy of the textile and it's age, there are a few holes. There is a hole by one of the tapes and another area of wear (approx 3 cm long)  mid way down the right hand edge as one looks at it. If one searches one can find one or two further tiny holes and the odd loose thread in the lacework. The leading edge of the curtain and the bottom shows some gentle wear. None of this draws the eye and the curtain is beautiful and fully functional as it is. When draped to one side the holes would not even show. The holes could however be darned or repaired and the bottom of the curtain could be hemmed.

The curtain measures :- 286 cm (9 ft 4.5 inches) long x 85 cm (2 ft 9.5 inches) wide.

A divine frothy hand embroidered lace curtain to add an authentic château chic finishing touch and another gorgeous antique French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.

Please note that the clips & tie back we have used to display the curtain are not included.
