B1236 - SOLD

This is a divine antique French icon dating from the 1800's. It is made from brass and porcelain and is very decorative and architectural.

The frame of the icon is made of fine gauge brass that has been cut and etched in a design that resembles church architecture. There is a central spire with a cross and to either side are two steeples. The attention to detail is astonishing - see the etched bricks on the spire and the little gargoyles in profile to either side. The icon sits on pointed feet which reflect the ecclesiastical architecture of the spire and steeples.

At the centre of the frame is a porcelain oval with the image of Jesus Christ beautifully depicted in glorious colour and detail. He holds the Sacred Flaming Heart in one hand and gestures with the other.

The icon stands on a brass back rest and there is a loop to take a ribbon or cord to hang on a wall.

We have left the icon as we found it. The brass has mellowed with the passage of time but would polish to a shiny finish if required. There are one or two minor dents in the brass but this does not diminish the beauty of this wonderful old piece.

The icon measures :- 24 cm (9.5 inches) high x 14 cm (5.5 inches) wide when flat.

This is a fabulous religious piece to display and use and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
