This magnificent antique French wood pediment would originally have come from an armoire or mirror and dates from the 1800's.

It is a fabulously decorative architectural piece and would look stunning over a doorway or as a centre piece on a curtain pelmet. Fixed above a bed it could form part of a ciel de lit from which to drape curtains.

The pediment is very substantial and three dimensional. The decoration on the pediment is formed by carved ebonised wood overlying a mahogany veneer. The effect is stunning! The pediment has a fabulous scrolled crest beneath which is a central shield. To either side further scrolls and curls form it's 'shoulders'.

The pediment is in good antique condition. There has been some worm in the past but this has now long gone. There is a sliver of veneer missing at the base. There is a dowel protruding down from the base which we have left on but this could be removed if not required.

The pediment measures :- 92.5  cm (36.5 inches) wide x 34 cm (13.5 inches) high (not including the dowel) x 8 cm (3.25 inches) deep.

This is a substantial and decorative piece to add authentic château chic glamour to an interior and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
