This is a truly heavenly antique French textile covered cabinet dating from the 19th Century. It would have sat on a commode in a château chic boudoir and would have been used to store handkerchiefs and trinkets.
It is covered in the most delicious cotton textile with tiny pink roses and blue ribbons and bows on a cream background. All of the edges are trimmed with a matching cream passementerie.
In the centre of the cabinet are two doors each covered with a paper vignette of a beautiful young maiden. One of our maidens is feeding the doves and pigeons and the other is feeding the fish. They are both wearing gorgeous floaty dresses and are truly divine. The vignettes are in sepia shades and are very atmospheric.
The doors are held together by a cute little brass clasp. The doors open to reveal an interior with 4 little card drawers each with a little ribbon pull. The fronts of the drawers are covered with the same gorgeous textile and the effect is simply divine.
To either side of the double doors there is a useful shelf just perfect for displaying tiny photo frames and ornaments.
The back, bottom and the inside of the doors are covered in a fabulous green marbled paper.
The cabinet is a very rare find indeed. It is sturdy and in good antique condition, please see all the photos.
It measures :- 32 cm (12.5 inches) high x 46 cm (18 inches) wide x 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) deep.
