B1242 - SOLD

This is a beautiful antique French pen stand with inkwells dating from the 1800's. It would be perfect for a bureau in a château chic boudoir or salon.

The stand sits on 4 elegant legs. It has an intricate metal frame and holds a gorgeous Mother of Pearl dish and two glass inkwells.

The Mother of Pearl dish has irridescent hints of pink and turquoise and has a scalloped edge. It is nice and deep and would be perfect for spare nibs. To the back of the dish are three gorgeous carved Mother of Pearl feathers attached to the frame by wirework. Behind the feathers is an intricate wirework frame with 8 loops to hold the pens, each with a little cup below to hold the nib. The detail is amazing!

To either side of the dish is a filigree cup to hold the glass inkwell. One of the cups has a blank plaque to the front, presumably for engraving. The inkwells appear to be original to the stand and are made of thick glass. They are in good condition with the merest nibble to one of them.

The stand is sturdy and in good antique condition.

It measures :- H 13.5 cm (5.25 inches) x W 18 cm (7 inches) x D 10 cm (4 inches).

A divine pen and inkwell stand to have, use and treasure and another superb antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.

N.B. The pen is for display purposes and is not included.
