This is a fabulous antique French ciel de lit / bed couronne or bed canopy dating from about 1920. It would have been hung above a bed to create a decorative centre piece from which to hang drapes. It is a substantial piece measuring nearly a metre wide and would be a stunning addition to a château chic boudoir.

It has a semi-circular wooden frame and is in the Empire style. It has a gorgeous ribbon and leaf crest to either side of which is a flower and ribbon garland. Simply divine!

Within the frame are staples from which the drapes can be hung.

The ciel de lit is sturdy. The gold paint has mellowed over the years to green and cream in places to wonderful effect! It is fabulous as it is or could be re-gilded or painted as required

The ciel de lit measures  :- W 91 cm (2 ft 11.75 inches) x D 46 cm (18 inches) x H 23 cm (9 inches).

This is a divine bed canopy to add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a boudoir and another fabulous antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
