B1255 - Sublime Antique French Monogrammed 'ND' Linen Dowry Sheet, Richelieu Lace 19th C
This is a sublime antique French fine linen long trousseau / dowry sheet dating from the 1800's. It is of superb quality and is hand embroidered with the monogram 'ND'. It is divine as a sheet but would also make a beautiful curtain as the linen is heavy and drapes beautifully.
The bottom of the sheet has a deep (24 cm, 9.5 inches) hand worked lace border with a scalloped edge. Within the lacework are 3 panels of Richelieu lace beautifully cut out and stitched into flowers.
Above the lace border is a gorgeous central 'ND' monogram hand embroidered within a cut out oval surround (16 cm, 6.25 inches high) with embroidered flowers. Gorgeous!
The linen of the sheet is of fabulous quality. It is a true natural cream in colour. We have left the sheet as we found it crisp and laundered. There is a little sepia shading in places (please see the lace under the monogram) which was probably acquired during storage. This would probably launder out but is so subtle, and so indicative of age that it is just part of the character of this gorgeous sheet.
The sheet measures :- 336 cm (11 ft) long x 200 cm (6 ft 7 inches) wide.
A gorgeous monogrammed sheet to give as a wedding present to N & D or to use and enjoy one's self. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles and decorative pieces at La Belle Ètoffe!
