B1268 - SOLD

This is a stunning vintage French woven tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 20th Century. It's design is after 'Les Vendanges' of the Cluny Museum in Paris. The original 'Les Vendanges' tapestry was completed in the first quarter of the 16th Century. This version certainly captures the essence of the original and would look superb whether hung in a country house home or a hyper modern apartment.

The design is incredibly detailed. It shows the stages of wine making, from the picking of the grapes to pressing and the first tasting of the wine - a process not differing too much today from this medieval scene. The scene takes place in a vineyard with a background of millefleurs. The atmosphere is very relaxed, with the nobility rubbing shoulders with the peasants. The colours are rich reds, ochres and blues.

The tapestry is woven in wool and linen. The weaving is of excellent quality and incorporates texture to add a 3 dimensional quality. The tapestry is thick and heavy and is in excellent vintage condition. It is lined and has rings sewn on the back for hanging.

It measures :- 192 cm (6 ft 3.5 inches) wide x 117 cm (3 ft 10 inches ) high.

A fantastic large woven tapestry wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to a room and another divine vintage French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.

N.B. - The clips we have used to hang the tapestry are not included.
