B1291 - SOLDThis is a fabulous antique French glass casket dating from the 1800's. It originally would have been used as a pocket watch stand but would now also be perfect for displaying trinkets, perhaps in a shop window and would certainly add a château chic touch to a boudoir. The casket is in the shape of an armoire and has a gorgeous repoussé laurel leaf wreath and ribbon tail crest. It stands on decorative repoussé feet. There is heavy bevelled glass to 4 sides. The glass door has a firm scrolled clasp. The back of the interior of the armoire is covered in padded & buttoned silk in a sublime shade of pale blue now faded with the passage of time. There is a little gilded hook at the top of the back and this is where the watch would have hung. The base of the interior is also glass. Beneath this is a little drawer, also lined with padded & buttoned silk, just perfect for a few rings and other bits of jewellery. The armoire casket is sturdy. The gilding on the metal has mellowed to a rosy hue. The silk has faded but is in good antique condition. There is a nibble to the glass on the inside of the top left hand back corner. This does not extend to the exterior which is smooth and all is safe & secure. The casket measures :- 20.5 cm (8 inches) high to the top of the crest x 11 cm (4.3 inches) wide x 8 cm (3.1 inches) deep. A sublime glass casket to use and treasure and another superb antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe! N.B. Any item photographed with the casket is for display and is not included.
