This is a superb antique French stair newel post finial (Boule d'Escalier) dating from the 19th Century. It would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a hall or landing.

The finial has a gorgeous facetted crystal ball held on a brass base. The cuts of the crystal catch the light beautifully. The glass is in excellent antique condition.

The brass base is sturdy and is complete. The base plate unscrews and has 4 holes for fixing to the stair newel. The boule then screws onto this. The gilding on the brass has mellowed to a lovely old gold hue over the years.

When the brass plate is removed we can look inside the boule and see that it is hollow.

The finial measures:- 12 cm (4.75 inches) high x approx. 9.5 cm (3.75 inches) wide. The base plate is 5.5 cm (2.25 inches) in diameter .
