This is a rather splendid set of 4 antique French church pricket candlesticks dating from the 19th Century. They would have stood on the church altar and would now make a very stylish addition to a château chic interior.

Each candlestick stands on a decorative triangular base with lion's feet. Each of the sides of the base is intricately decorated with a religious image, one side with Mary, one side with Jesus and the other with Joseph.

The column of each candlestick is of the classic Empire style and the bobeche are simple with clean lines.

The candlesticks are sturdy and are made of gilded brass. We have left them as we found them. The gilding has mellowed and patinated over the years to wonderful effect - there are even areas of verdigris. However the candlesticks would polish to a shiny finish if desired.

Whether placed on a simple country buffet or a grand enfilade these gorgeous candlesticks will look stunning and would be just perfect down a long dining table.

Each candlestick measures :- H 35 cm (13.75 inches) to the top of the spike x 10 cm (4 inches) along the bottom of one side of the base.
