B1315 - Charming Antique French Plaster Bust, Child at Evening Prayer, 'Prière Du Soir'
This is a charming antique French plaster bust dating from the early 1900's. The subject is a child at evening prayer and it is entitled 'Prière Du Soir'. It is moulded in wonderful detail.
The child has her hands clasped under her chin and her head is inclined in sleepy prayer. She has lovely wavy hair, beautiful pale blue eyes and cupid bow lips.
Her pinafore is buttoned up the back and is worn over a short sleeved dress which folds and flares at the arms.
She is beautifully painted in sepia tones. The touch of pale blue to the eyes and pink to the lips give her a doll like quality.
The attention to detail is stunning. See her entwined fingers!
The plaster plinth has a plaque to the front with the title 'Prière Du Soir' and the back is engraved with the makers stamp. There is a signature to the side and a retailer's label to the back (please see photos).
The bust is in good antique condition. There is a little patination and very minor distressing to the paint but she is gorgeous just as she is .
She measures 29 cm (11.5 inches) high x 20 cm (8 inches) wide x 14 cm (5.5 inches) deep.
This is a beautiful bust to add an authentic antique French finishing touch and another divine brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
