This is a gorgeous, superb quality antique French leather trinket / jewellery box dating from the 19th century.
The leather is in a rich chestnut hue and is very tactile. The lid has smart brass corners and a central brass plate, which could perhaps be engraved.
The lid of the box lifts up to reveal a sumptuous padded and buttoned interior in a gorgeous magenta coloured silk. The silk is in amazing antique condition with no wear, just a little dust from the passage of time.
The box has a strong piano hinge and sits on four little studs. It has a cute escutcheon with a working lock and it's original key.
The box is sturdy and is in good antique condition. It has a scuff to the leather of one of the back corners and there are one or two old worm holes in the lid but these do not detract.
It measures :- 18.5 cm (7.25 inches) wide x 15 cm (6 inches) deep x 7.5 cm (3 inches) high.
An exceptional antique leather jewellery box to use and enjoy. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'!
N.B. Any accessories used to display the box are not included.
