B1335 - Glamourous Antique French Hand Worked Embroidered Pleated Pierrot Cushion C1920
This is a gorgeous antique French hand worked embroidered cushion with a glamourous Pierrot design dating from around 1920. We also have a similar one, B1336, listed in our other items and together they would make an amazing display.
The cushion is round in shape. The panel on the top of the cushion is made of biscuit coloured linen and has been embroidered with the face of Pierrot. Our Pierrot however is stunningly beautiful and surely must be a 1920's flapper in fancy dress! She wears her cap in the 1920's style with just a hint of her fabulous blonde hair peeking out. Her eyes are made up to be enormous with long spikey lashes. Her bright red lips complete her stunning maquillage.
A fan of braid radiates around her face and this is cinched with embroidery which perfectly emulates the 3 dimensional appearance of her Pierrot ruff.
The back of the cushion is made from a very fine cotton textile and and the pleated edge is made of crepe de chine in a rust shade now faded with the passage of time.
The cushion is filled with cut morceaux of foam. The opening for the filling is still open, in fact it seems to still have it's original pins. We have left it like this should the customer prefer to refill it, although it is currently filled to a pleasing plumptiousness.
The central embroidered panel of the cushion is in excellent antique condition. The crepe de chine has some minor areas of wear (not surprising after 100 years, please see photos). The cushion is servicable as it is or the embroidered panel could be removed from the cushion and used for other upholstery projects if desired.
The cushion is approx. 42 cm (16.5 inches) in diameter x 16 cm (6.25 inches) thick.
This beautiful cushion is from a carefully selected collection of gorgeous antique French textiles & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
