B1342 - Fantastic Pair Long Antique French Art Deco Velvet Chateau Curtains,Drapes C1920
This is a fantastic pair of long antique French velvet curtains in the Art Deco style and dating around 1920. They would certainly add an authentic finishing touch to a retro interior.
The textile is a superb quality deep pile cotton velvet. The background colour is a bright daffodil yellow with a branch and leaf design in a darker shade. Upon this is a flower design in rich jewel colours of blue, green, mauve and red. The colour combination is amazing!
The top of each curtain is sewn into 5 pinch pleats each sewn with an antique toleware curtain ring. The top outer corner of each curtain is sewn with a metal ring to take tape to secure it to the pole.
On turning the curtains around we can see that they are beautifully lined with a fabulous yellow cotton textile which is clean and in good condition.
The velvet textile of the curtains is in good antique condition. There is a little fading in places and there are some minor marks that blend into the design but do not draw the eye. Among these is a speckly rust coloured mark which comes in from the side of each curtain (please see photos) which could perhaps have come from metal curtain tie backs.
We have left the curtains as we found them. In our opinion they are ready to hang in a period home where the minor characteristics of their age will be celebrated. They have not been dry cleaned.
Each curtain measures:- 237 cm (7 ft 9.25 inches) long x 95 cm (3 feet 1.5 inches) wide at the top and 126 cm (4 ft 1.5 inches) across the bottom.
The external diameter of each curtain ring is 7 cm (2.75 inches)
This is a fabulous pair of antique French curtains to add an authentic Art Deco statement and another divine period French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
N.B. Any accessories we have used to display the curtains are not included unless otherwise stated.
