B1349 - Delightful Pair Antique French Floral Tapestry Chateau Curtains / Drapes, C1900
This is a delightful pair of long antique French tapestry château curtains dating from about 1900. They are very pretty and would be perfect to add an authentic shabby chic finishing touch to a vintage interior.
The textile is a cotton tapestry. It has a beige background with beautiful flower vignettes linked together with flower garland swags. The flowers are in fabulous shades of coral with highlights of blue and green which all look superb against the beige background.
The curtains have a deep hem. The sides of the curtains are formed by the selvedge of the tapestry. The tops of the curtains are gently gathered and sewn with small metal rings. These could of course be replaced with larger rings to take a bigger pole.
The curtains are in good antique condition. There is some darkening of the textile in areas. This blends into the design in sepia tones and is only visible when inspecting the textile very closely and not when viewing the curtains as a whole. Mid-way down the outer edge of the left hand curtain is a particular example of this darkening (please see photos) but again this blends into the design.
We have left the curtains as we found them. In our opinion they are ready to hang in a period home where the characteristics of their age will be celebrated. They have not been dry cleaned.
Each curtain measures:- 260 cm (8 ft 6.5 inches) long x 95 cm (3 feet 1.5 inches) wide across the top & 123 cm (4ft 0.25 inches) across the bottom.
This is a delightful pair of antique tapestry curtains to add an authentic pretty French finishing touch and another divine period French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
N.B. We have used clips to hang the curtains and these are not included. The curtain hold backs are also for display and are not included.
