B1355 - SOLD
This is a fabulous panel of 19th Century hand embroidered Chinese silk with birds & flowers. The silk is sumptuous and shiny and is in a stunning shade of saffron yellow. The workmanship in the stitching is superb.
Standing on the ground at the base of the design are two fantastic long beaked birds. The quality of the stitching is well demonstrated here when we observe the detail in the blades of grass. Burgeoning up from the ground is a plethora of chrysanthemums and leaves. Above them hover two little birds and a butterfly - just lovely!
The stitchwork on the panel is in good condition and is intact. The silk of the panel itself however, does show some characteristics of age. There is fatigue to the textile at the top of the panel and there are some other smaller splits and areas of wear across it's surface (please see photos). There are also some areas of light soiling. Apart from the split at the top, which could easily be hemmed off, the age characteristics on the panel blend in and it remains a stunningly attractive piece which could be hung and enjoyed just as it is.
The panel measures :- 142 cm (4 ft 8 inches) high x 67 cm (2 ft 2 inches) wide.
This is a truly beautiful antique silk embroidered panel. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
N.B. We have hung the panel with clips which are not included.
