B1392 - SOLD

This is a stunning and rare antique French carved wood plaque dating from the 1700's. It is the carving practice plaque of an apprentice woodworker. It is a very atmospheric architectural piece and would be superb as a decorative feature on a wall.

The 'front' of the panel is carved in relief with an exquisitely pretty scrolled acanthus leaf and rose design as would appear on top quality armoires and mirrors of the time. See the individual hewn marks on the background of the carving.

The 'back' of the panel has a geometrical floral design where the use of more complex tools would have been explored.

As with a lot of furniture still existing from this era, the plaque has experienced some worm. This has long gone but the resultant effect just adds to the atmosphere and aesthetics of this wonderful old piece.

The plaque measures :- 45 cm (17.75 inches) high x 29 cm (11.5 inches) wide.

A stunningly unique piece to add an authentic architectural château chic finishing touch and another superb antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
