B1424 - SOLD

This is a sublime antique French Richelieu lace curtain or panel dating from the early 1900's.

It is hand worked in fantastic detail in fine linen in a lovely shade of antique white. The linen has good weight and the whole piece drapes beautifully.

The linen is divided into 6 panels by bands of gorgeous filet lacework with a scroll design. This same lace design also forms the two outer scalloped edges of the panel. Within each section of the panel is the most fabulous scene worked in cut out Richelieu or filet lace work. Beautiful flowers and gorgeous winged cherubic angels dominate the theme of this heavenly piece.

In the central top panel is a beautiful bowl of filet lace roses. To either side of this are further flowers in cut out Richelieu lacework.

It is in the bottom sections however where the cherubs are having the fun. The central oval panel has 3 winged cherubs frollicking amongst the full blown roses and to either side a single cherub stoops to inspect a butterfly. Utterly charming!

The work is exquisite and the design breathtaking. The panel is in good antique condition. If one looks closely a few pulled threads can be seen in the lacework. There is one small area of darn on the bottom edge.  We have photographed the entire piece for close inspection.

The panel measures :- W 214 cm (7 ft 0.75 inches) x H 186 cm (6 ft 1.25 inches).

A divine curtain / panel to add an authentic antique French finishing touch and another superb brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
