B1436 - SOLD
This is a stunning antique French religious plaque dating from the 19th Century. It is made in copper mounted on wood and is very decorative and architectural. It would be perfect for a special niche.
The scene of the Immaculate Conception is set within a highly decorative altar. The altar has a pediment and a column to either side. Each column is entwined with delicate flower garlands and has an impressive griffin guarding it's base.
Within the altar the Angel Gabriel visits a kneeling Mary while the dove and a host of gorgeous winged cherubs hover above amongst the billowing clouds.
The detail to the metal work is extra-ordinary - see the filigreework on the pediment and the base of the altar.
The copper has a subtle antique hue and finish which looks perfect against the wood background.
The back of the plaque has a loop for hanging. There was once a support for standing it up but this has now long gone.
The plaque measures :- 29 cm (11.5 inches) high x 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide.
This is a fabulous religious piece to display and use and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
N.B. We have photographed it with another of our religious pieces B1429.
