B1454 - Sublime Little Antique French Toleware Watch Stand, Mother of Pearl Box C 1860
This is a sublime antique French pocket watch stand dating from the Napoleon III era C 1860. It would have originally stood on a night stand and the watch hung from the hook at the top and rings and jewellery placed in the mother of pearl box below.
The frame of the stand is made of wirework decorated with toleware leaves. At the top is a tiny hook to hold the watch and at the base is a gorgeous mother of pearl box.
The mother of pearl box is oval in shape. It has a domed hinged lid which lifts to reveal the beautiful irridescent bowl. The edges of both the lid and the bowl have a repoussé trim and there is a looped wire clasp.
The stand has survived the years in good condition. The metal has dulled to a fabulous old gold with some patination to one side which could be an old solder (please see photos).
The stand measures 12.5 cm (5 inches) high x 9.25 cm (3.6 inches) wide x 6.25 cm (2.5 inches) deep.
A beautiful old watch stand to use and enjoy and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
