B1457 - SOLD

This is a gorgeous antique French bènitier dating from about 1920. It is stunningly pretty and would add a château chic finishing touch to a special contemplative niche.

It has a decorative metal frame within which is a leather panel in rich mid brown tones. Mounted in the centre of the panel is a beautifully detailed repoussé oval bearing the image of the Virgin Mary embracing the Infant Jesus. They each have a lovely halo and their features are exquisitely defined.

A gorgeous bow with rose garland swag tails forms the crest of the oval and 'suspends' it - just beautiful!

Beneath this charming scene is a glass Holy water stoup. It is held in place with a decorative metal strap.

On the back of the bènitier is the maker or retailer's name and the place name NANCY. There is a loop for hanging it on a wall.

The bènitier is in good antique condition. The metal has mellowed to a lovely old gold hue. We have left the leather as we found it but it would polish further if required.

It measures :- 25 cm (9.8 inches) high x 14.25 cm (5.6 inches) wide.
