B1461 - SOLD

This is a divine antique French religious banner depicting the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus dating from the 19th C. It would have hung in a church and been carried during religious processions. It would now make a stunning decorative finishing touch to an interior. We have another similar one, B1460, which we have photographed with it and which is listed in our other items.

This one features a beautiful tender scene of the Virgin Mary & Baby Jesus printed on canvas. It is printed in wonderful colour and detail and appears to radiate light.

Surrounding the scene is a metallic wire passementerie border with a fringe to the base. The top of the hanging has 3 tabs and hangs on a metal pole with brass finials. The pole is hung by it's original green cord with tassels.

The reverse of the banner is lined with a fine cotton textile.

The banner and it's pole have survived the years in good antique condition. The canvas, passementerie and cord have a fabulous antique patina. The brass finials have dulled with the passage of time but could be polished if required. There is a water mark on the lining (please see photos).

The banner measures :- 88.5 cm (34.8 inches) high from the top of the tabs to the bottom of the fringe x 52 cm (20.5 inches) wide
The pole measures :- 63 cm (24.75 inches) wide.
