B1469 - SOLD

This is a fabulous pair of antique French tassel curtain tie backs dating from the 1800's. They are full of timeworn faded grandeur and would hold back a substantial pair of château curtains. They would look superb in a country house interior.

They each have two large, plumptious tassels hanging on their silk & wool bound multi - corded ropes. Each pair of tassels is held on a silk covered wooden core. Each tassel then has two further silk covered wooden beads before the multicoloured fringed tassel itself descends. The wooden core, one of the beads and the top of the tassel has a worked 'net' effect over the silk. The attention to detail is astonishing and the resultant effect breathtaking!

The overall colour palette is subtle jewel shades of burgundy, green and gold.

The tie backs are fully functional. The ropes and tassels are good and strong. As one would expect they do have characteristics of age from the last 130 years or so. The colours have faded over the passage of time and the  silk has fluffed & worn in places. Non of this detracts from their timeworn splendour and their effect will be undeniable in a sympathetic environment.

Each tie back measures approx. :- 68 cm ( 26.75 inches) from the back of the cord loop to the end of the tassel. The tassel itself measures :- 27 cm (10.5 inches) from the top of the top bead to the ends of the fringing.

A fabulous pair of tie backs to add an authentic château chic statement to an interior. They are from a carefully selected collection of antique curtains & curtain accessories at 'La Belle Étoffe'.

N.B. We have photographed them on a pair of curtains soon to be listed in our other items.
