This is a superb antique French stair newel post finial (Boule d'Escalier) dating from the 19th Century. It would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a hall or landing.

The finial has a gorgeous facetted crystal ball held on a brass base. The cuts of the crystal catch the light beautifully. The glass is in excellent antique condition.

The brass base is sturdy and has a fine thread within. It would originally have had an additional plate which screwed into this for fixing to the newel post. This plate has long gone but an alternative form of fixing could now be employed.  The gilding on the brass is still shiny with a lovely antique patina.

The finial measures:- 11 cm (4.3 inches) high x approx. 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) wide. The base plate is 5.5 cm (2.25 inches) in diameter .
