B1503 - Charming Antique French Statue On Plinth, Young Couple In 18th C Country Costume

This is a charming antique French spelter statue dating from the 19th Century. It is of a delightful 18th Century young couple in country costume. It is of a perfect size to sit on a mantelpiece or on a console table to add a château chic finishing touch to a room.

The young man is a shepherd. He carries a staff and wears a sheepskin down his back. He is smartly attired in breeches and a frock coat.

The young woman is also nicely attired in a full skirted gown with a laced bodice. She carries a distaff on which the wool is held for spinning.

Behind them and on the ground we can see the vegetation which sets the country scene.

The attention to detail in the casting of the spelter and the construction of the piece is astonishing. The spelter has a dramatic dark hue which creates the wonderful atmosphere of this lovely piece.

The statue measures :- 20 cm (7.75 inches) high x 18.5 cm (7.25 inches) wide x 9 cm (3.5 inches) deep.
