B1507 - SOLDThis is a superb printed linen wall hanging with just about everything going for it! It dates from the mid 20th Century but depicts a medieval tapestry scene. It comes complete with a hanging pole and is ready to add a heraldic touch to a room. In the upper centre of the wall hanging is a magnificent coat of arms and to either side of this is a lady dressed in gorgeous medieval costume. Above the head of each lady is a banner and collectively the two banners read 'Tapisserie aux Armes de Charles Le Temeraire de Bourgogne' - Tapestry of the Armes of Charles The Bold of Burgundy. Charles the Bold was the Duke of Burgundy from 1433 to 1477. Beneath the ladies is a fabulous unicorn and a griffin. Between all the featured subjects is a plethora of vegetation and millefleur. All of the printed items in the design are outlined with chain stitch in a metallic thread which gives the wall hanging a 3 dimensional quality. The colours are rich tones of pink, green and blue which look fabulous against the brown background. To the top and bottom of the wall hanging is a floral border. Around the edge is a passementerie trim which in turn is edged with gold coloured cord which is knotted at the corners. The top of the wall hanging has 4 tabs for hanging on the medieval looking metal rod. The back of the wall hanging is lined. There are a few minor marks on the lining but the rest of the wall hanging is in excellent vintage condition. The hanging measures :- 75 cm (29.5 inches) high including the tabs x 56 cm (22 inches) wide. The pole is 73 cm (28.75 inches) wide. A fantastic wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to a room and another divine vintage French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
