B1509 - SOLDThis is a superb antique French bon bon / confiserie jar dating from the 1800's. It oozes style and grandeur and is as decorative as it is useful. The jar itself is made of gorgeous turquoise glass with a diamond shaped pattern. The glass is thick and heavy and full of the bubbles and imperfections characteristic of only really old glass. The jar has a superb silvered pewter lid and handle. The handle is very decorative with curvaceous acanthus leaf scrolls and a central rose flourish. It attaches to a collar which runs around the neck of the jar and has a scroll and leaf design. The lid is covered with a plethora of scrolls and roses and is finished with a gorgeous rose and leaf finial. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips to the glass. The silvering on the lid and handle is still bright and beautiful. The jar with the handle down measures approx :- 14 cm (5.5 inches) to the top of the finial on the lid x approx. 17 cm (6.75 inches) in diameter. With the handle up the jar measures approx :- 19 cm (7.5 inches) high. Filled with goodies and displayed on a shelf this beautiful jar would certainly add a château chic touch to any cuisine or salon.
