This is a spectacular pair of antique French silk brocade & velvet château curtains dating from the 19th Century. They are a feast for the eyes and are of superb quality. They would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a room.

The curtains are made in a superb textured silk brocade with a band of silk velvet to each meeting edge.

The brocade has a flower and leaf design in shades of old gold. The velvet was once a reddy brown but it has now faded beautifully into a melange of reddy and chocolate brown. The true colour can be seen at the meeting edges of the curtains where possibly a passementerie was once attached.

The curtains have pinch pleats at the top. They are lined with a brown cotton textile and are interlined. Each curtain weighs over 3 kg and they would certainly help to keep the draughts out.

The curtains are in very good antique condition with no obvious marks to the brocade or velvet. There are a few tiny areas of wear on the velvet which are so small that we have had trouble showing them on the photos. There is one hole, a few tiny holes and a minor mark on the lining.

The bottoms of the curtains have cut edges and one curtain is slightly longer than the other.

We have left the curtains as we found them. In our opinion, once the bottoms have been addressed, they are ready to hang in a period home where the characteristics they have acquired over the last 100 + years will be celebrated. They have not been dry cleaned.

The longest curtain is 264 cm (8 ft 8 inches) long, the other one is 255 cm (8 ft 4.5 inches) long.
Both curtains measure :- 140 cm (4 ft 7 inches) across the bottom and 110 cm (3 ft 7 inches) across the top.

This is a fabulous pair of antique French curtains to add an authentic château chic statement to the grandest of homes and another divine period French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.

N.B. The curtain rings and hold backs that we have used to display the curtains are not included.
