B1524 - SOLD

This is a fabulous large panel of antique French Toile de Jouy in a heavy textured cotton and dating from the Napoleon 111 era C 1860.  It is unused and would be perfect to incorporate into a château chic interior project.

The textile is of very high quality. The design is of typical bucolic 18th Century scenes and is printed in amazing detail and definition. The costumes and faces almost look like they have been painted.

The central vignette of the pattern features a charming lady and gentleman dancing. They wear beautiful 18th Century costume. She has a gorgeous pink skirt and he has a beautiful pale blue frock coat. The detail to the printing is clearly demonstrated when we look at the handle of the gentleman's rapier.

Other characters in the design are a gentleman playing a lyre and a lady with a fan. All around the characters are gorgeous garlands of pink roses and ochre trees which look fabulous against the black background. Just gorgeous!

The textile is wonderfully crisp. It is in excellent antique condition and looks like it has never been used.

There is a 7 cm (2.75 inches) reversed hem on the bottom of the panel.

The panel, not including the hem, measures :- 220 cm (86.5 inches) long x 78 cm (30.75 inches) wide.
