This is a magnificent vintage French woven tapestry wall hanging depicting an 18th Century country scene. It is woven in wool and dates from the mid 20th Century. It is huge and weighs over 5 kg.  It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch and would look superb whether in an ultra modern apartment or a country house home.

The scene is dominated by a spectacular tree at the foot of which is a shepherdess with her sheep. A couple can be seen  collecting water from a fountain and there is a hamlet in the distance. All around is fabulous lush vegetation. Around this bucolic scene is a beautiful border of flowers and leaves.

The colours are greens and ochres with touches of blues and pinks in the costumes. The tapestry is of excellent quality and is woven in wonderful detail, see the bird in the tree. It is is thick and heavy and is in superb vintage condition. It is lined and has velcro sewn to the top for fixing onto a batten.

It measures :- 242 cm (7 ft 11.25 inches) high x 147 cm (4 ft 9.75 inches ) wide.

A fantastic large tapestry wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique French textiles and decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
