B1558 - Stunning Large Vintage French Tapestry Wall Hanging, 18th C Rural Hunting Scene

This is a stunning vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch to a room and make a fantastic bed head.

It depicts an 18th Century hunting scene full of action and life.  In the foreground are a lady and gentleman riding fine steeds. They are accompanied by their manservant with hunting dogs straining at the leash. They are all superbly dressed. The men wear padded tunics and breeches. The lady wears a cloak and a gorgeous full skirted gown. They all have starched ruffs at their necks and plumed hats. The setting is idyllic with a profusion of vegetation around the characters.  Behind them is the water of a lake and a village and a windmill can be seen in the distance.

The colours are very subtle with an emphasis on pale green and turquoise highlighted with touches of pink.

The tapestry is woven in cotton and is in good vintage condition. There is evidence around the edges that it was once mounted on a frame.

It measures :- 185 cm (6ft 1 inch) wide x 95 cm (3ft 1 inch) high.
