This is a heavenly antique French jewellery  / boudoir box in the Art Nouveau style and dating about 1900. It would be perfect for jewellery or  a few precious letters  in a château chic boudoir.

The box is covered in it's original vibrant red silk velvet which still retains a deep pile and is very tactile.

The lid has gorgeous gilded metal flag iris and butterfly embellishments which are cast in amazing detail and definition.

There is a lovely gilded escutcheon to the front of the box but sadly the key has long gone. The box sits on 4 metal stud feet.

The lid lifts up on a sturdy piano hinge to reveal a padded interior. It is lined with a delightful silk textile with a lemon background printed with pink and yellow roses in a basket - utterly charming!

The box has survived the years in good antique condition and is sturdy. There is a little wear to the velvet on the edge of the lid and to the silk interior but this does not detract from the beauty of this exceptional box.

The box measures :- 19.75 cm (7.75 inches) wide x 18 cm (7.1 inches) deep  x 8.25 cm  (3.25 inches) high.

An old and beautiful box to use and enjoy and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
