B1597 - SOLD
This is a beautiful antique Chinese silk, hand embroidered piano shawl dating from about 1920. It is very tactile and hangs divinely. The shawl would be gorgeous to wear but would also look fabulous draped across the back of a sofa or chaise.
The silk of the shawl is very fine and is in a sublime shade of antique cream. There is a large hand embroidered area to one corner. There are three central large flowers in a gorgeous shade of dark coral. To either side of these are tendrils of smaller flowers in divine soft pinks, lemons and mauves. In contrast the green of the leaves is in a clear emerald shade which looks superb against the cream of the silk - just lovely.
Around the edge of the shawl is a fantastic long, knotted and tasselled, frothy silk fringe.
The shawl is in good antique condition. We can find just a few very small marks (please see photos) which are very pale and certainly do not draw the eye. There are one or two pulled threads here and there and of course the fringe has tousled over the passage of time to achieve it's frothy appearance.
The shawl measures :- 100 cm (39 inches) x 97 cm (38 inches) without the fringe. The fringe is 50 cm (19.5.5 inches) long.
This is an exquisite shawl to add glamour to an outfit or a room and another divine antique textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
