B1651 - Beautiful Antique French Printed Cotton Curtain / Drape, Flowers & Hirondelles
This is a beautiful antique French printed cotton curtain / panel dating from the 19th Century. We also have another curtain, B1650, and a panel, B1652, of the same fabric listed in our other items.
The top of the curtain is lightly ruched onto a tape which shows. The bottom is unevenly hemmed and the selvedges form the sides, one of which shows signs of once being sewn. There is a seam across the panel about 30 cm down from the top. The textile above this seam is slightly darker than that of the rest of the piece indicating that perhaps it was originally covered with a pelmet. The panel shows signs of having been let down in the past.
The print is formed by a plethora of flower and leaf bouquets. These are linked with garlands and tendrils upon which little hirondelles perch and around which butterflies flutter - just lovely!
The colours are a wonderful combination of greys and pinks on a cherry red background.
The textile is crisp. There are some minor marks which blend into the design but the textile is very robust and could be laundered if required.
The curtain measures :- 280 cm (9 ft 2 inches) long x 46 cm (1 ft 6 inches) across the top & 80 cm (2 ft 7.5 inches) across the bottom.
An exceptionally pretty antique French curtain to incorporate into an interiors project. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique & vintage French textiles, curtains & curtain accessories, and decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'!
N.B. Any accessories we have used to display the curtain are not included.
