B1662 - SOLD

This is a superb antique French sculpted alabaster bust of  Mary, the Madonna.  It would probably have been bought as a souvenir of a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Mary is very serene. Her head is slightly turned on her long elegant neck. The neckline of her gown is classically medieval and her mantle drapes beautifully around her head.

She is beautifully carved. The sepia tones of the alabaster enhances the simplicity of the piece.

The front of the base is inscribed 'ND LOURDES'.

She is in good antique condition and measures :- H 16 cm (6.25 inches) x W 15.25 cm (6 inches) x D 9.5 cm ( 3.5 inches).
