B1675 - Superb Antique French Framed Religious Embroidered JHS, Metallic Thread On Silk
This sublime antique French religious embroidery dates from the 19th Century and probably came from a priest's vestment. It is full of timeworn splendour and would be the perfect compliment to a château chic interior.
The embroidery is beautifully executed in gold wire metallic thread and sequins onto a silk background. The design incorporates the letters JHS surrounded by a sunburst. The silk has wonderfully faded to a lovely pinky/corally shade and has shattered with the passage of time. The textile between the letters remains intact and here we can see it's original design.
All this splendour is surrounded by a gilded gesso on wood circular frame and backed with board. The frame is sturdy with just a little distressing to the gilding.
The embroidered letters and their sunburst surround remain intact and could be incorporated into another project if required.
This amazing piece of needlework in it's frame is :- 37.5 cm (14.75 inches) in diameter.
It is from a carefully selected collection of gorgeous antique French religious & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.
