B1710 - SOLD
Dating from the Napoleon III period (C 1860) this gorgeous antique French stand would have originally been displayed below a glass dome as part of the traditional marriage display.
The dome has long gone and this superb period piece would now make a fabulous decorative piece or a display stand for jewellery perhaps in a château chic boudoir.
The stand sits on an ebonised wooden plinth with 4 little wooden feet. The focal point of the stand is the plump red padded velvet cushion upon which the original wedding couronne & corsage would have sat.
Above the cushion is a central hexagonal mirror with a rectangular mirror to either side. The mirrors are beautifully hand painted with delicate flowers and leaves. Above and around the mirrors is a profusion of gilded toleware flowers, leaves, bunches of grapes and paper thin porcelain roses and flowers. A stunning toleware hirondelle with a flower garland wreath in it's beak crowns this amazing confection.
Beneath the velvet cushion, which sits in a toleware crown, are 3 more hand painted mirrors surrounded by further toleware flowers and leaves - just amazing.
The marriage stand has survived the years in sturdy antique condition. Some of the porcelain flowers are missing and these have, rather charmingly, been replaced over the years with vintage fabric flowers. There has been a little worm in the base but this is now stable.
The stand measures:- 51 cm (20 inches) high x 37 cm (14.25 inches) wide x 24 cm (9.5 inches) deep.
A gorgeous timeworn treasure to add faded grandeur to any chateau chic boudoir and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
