This is a sublime antique French religious triptyque. It would have been given as a gift and would usually have stood open on a night stand and be closed up for a journey.

The triptyque is covered in tooled green leatherette. It has a stand on the back with the retailer's name and above this are gold embossed the letters 'H E' and the date '14 mai 1903.' There is also a little metal ring for hanging purposes.

The front of the triptyque has 2 doors and a cute metal clasp. The doors open to reveal a beautiful silvered repoussé scene of the Holy Family. The scene is finely worked and has a delicate gilded border. It has a sumptuous black velvet backing.

The inside of the doors are plumptiously padded and are covered in a gorgeous green moiré silk.

The triptyque is in good antique condition. The gilding on the exterior leatherette has mellowed from years of handling.

It measures :- 14.5 cm (5.6 inches) high x 9.5 cm (3.75 inches) wide x 2 cm (0.75 inches) deep when closed. It is 19.5 cm (7.75 inches) wide when open.
